First draft for scientific basis of project: Earthshine spectrum expected features and uses- Marko
Spectrometer Details
Instrument:
Minaturised near-UV/visible spectrometer which is a stripped down and ruggedised version of AvaSpec-2048 Fibre Optic Spectrometer.
Table of core instrument vs. space flight instrument.
AvaSpec-2048 properties - cost 2000 GBP: Optical Bench - 75mm focal length Wavelength range – 200-1100 nm Resolution – 0.04 – 20 nm Sensitivity - 5000 counts/microW per ms intergration time Detector – CCD linear array, 2048 pixels Power – 1.92 W Dimensions – 175 x 110x 44 mm Mass – 716 g
Spaceflight Instrument Version currently being developedas a proposed instrument on board the ExoMars lander (as described in Patel et al, 2004 and in personal communication): Optical Bench - 75mm focal length Wavelength range - 400-800 nm Resolution – 1-1.5 nm Sensitivity - 5000 counts/microW per ms intergration time Detector – CCD linear array, 2048 pixels Power – 200 mW Dimensions – for ExoMars 10 x 13 x 3 cm (LxWxH) but further design change will makeit possible to fit with the 10 x 10 x 10 cm mission constraint. Mass – ~100 g
