(This is the public version of this course - see the discussion tab for background info)

Please note that this course is in the early stages of development - by all means leap in and help us develop it - indeed part of the plan is that folk studying the course will extend and enhance it - cos we know from experience at the OU that the folk who learn the most are the folk who design the courses rather than the students who study them.

If you want to discuss aspects of the course then post a message in the forum - or feel free to add to the course directly here ...

Setting up your course blog

Throughout the course you are expected to reflect on your experiences of studying it - and a blog seems like an appropriate tool given our focus on Web 2.0 technologies. Alternatively you could use your user page as a Bliki

You can find information on how to create your course blog here and setting up a bliki here.

Know IT All for Teachers

This is a resource aimed at helping teachers, trainee teachers and adults working with children understand and address the e-safety issues children are potentially at risk of exposure to. It was developed by Childnet International, with support from the TDA, Microsoft and Becta.

Know IT All for Teachers is based on research with academics and 400 trainee teachers from University of Southampton, Canterbury Christ Church University, Middlesex University and University of Brighton, e-safety training was recognised as a requirement for current trainee teachers, existing teachers and other adults working with children. The resource is aimed at the secondary sector and builds on the success of Know IT All for Parents which, in its first six months, was distributed by schools to some one million parents.

Know IT All for Teachers was officially launched on 10 December 2007.

The new UK Council for Child Internet Safety was launched today - see here: http://www.dcsf.gov.uk/pns/DisplayPN.cgi?pn_id=2008_0215

The establishment of this was a key recommendation in the Byron Review: http://www.dcsf.gov.uk/byronreview/actionplan/

Web 2.0 technologies for learning at KS3 and KS4 - Project overview

SLOODLE Demo Course

Developed for the recent Scottish JISC-RSC Virtual Worlds event, there is a new SLOODLE demonstation course available online and in Second Life.

In an attempt to both demonstrate a range of the tools available, and how they might be used, the course uses a mock curriculum (Sound and Music) as a context for a self-paced tutorial exercise taught in Moodle and in Second Life.

The course starts here: http://www.sloodle.org/moodle/course/view.php?id=42

You will need to create an account at SLOODLE.org to access this - you can create an account on the login screen if need be.

The course works as a solo tutorial, but some activities will work best if undertaken as a small group. The complete tutorial should take from 90 minutes to 2 hours or so to complete - but you can drop in and out as required.
