I'm just thinking that if we have 3 leaders for each department, and several departments, we might run out of people who are willing to be leaders.  It depends how many people put themselves up for nomination.

3 leaders for one department is too many people
a department of 3 or 4 people, with one of them being the leader and co-ordinator etc, will be better
once we have a list of all the departments needed, people can volunteer to be in that department and the members themselves could decide who is the leader
i think it would also be good if the leaders of each department met every week or every 2 weeks to update each other in a sort of parliament

Okay, due to a majority vote on the poll, people for the government are going to be nominated through a topic on the forum (which I will post up soon).

I think that the general consensus seems to be that we will volunteer ourselves for departments, and then there will be polls (or some other sort of voting easy to manage), with the top three or four people being leaders of the department (note: leader only means that they co-ordinate things and help to keep control, they have no extra powers). These 'leaders' will meet in a general open parliament (okay, so anyone can go really) where there will be a 'chair' (like a PM, but with no extra powers to everyone else) to run these.

Agreed? (and please don't start saying how democracy isn't the best way to go, etc.)

I agree Trix
We need a list of departments though
Maybe the 1st department we set up should be for planning permission for building cos of the lack of space we have left

Departments:
  • Building/Planning Permission
  • Rule-Breaking/Law Enforcement
  • Education
  • Scripting
  • Safety
  • General Affairs
Those were the ones we decided at the first meeting we had. Planning is obviously very important at the moment, but do we need all of them? We also have to remember about an overall 'leader', and if there are any other departments we need.

I think that all those departments will do for now.
But what if we had an overview department that the members of co-ordinate the other departments and arrange all the common meeting etc.

I like that idea - it would save having a 'leader' as such, because the people from this group could either nominate one person to chair the general meetings, or take it in turns. Just need a name for it lol.

"Loony" is more appropriate for some of us, I would think. ;). It's certainly a less boring suggestion :P

In addition to the proposed departments, I'd have one for events or meetings, so we can make sure that not too many meetings are running at once, as well as perhaps having a sub commitee for planning group experiments or projects. Of course, we could just continue using these forums and alerting people if their planned meetings overlap.

I'm also not sure about having a single leader. Not only will that become increasingly competitive but it reduces mobility if that person is not online. Centralised government takes longer to react as the orders have to go all the way through the chain of command and it would be best if each department could manage itself-the government coordination department sounds like a good idea for aiding this.

A couple of my views:

A poll on the forums seems like the best way to go about it.
I think anyone should be allowed to go up for nomination, then the top 3 are elected as leaders (3 in each department, to allow voting within the department if opinions differ).
Why not three leaders? One Chair, One Secretary and One Vice?
I also think we should make a 'manifestos' page on the wiki, where people can state their policies for the department they are running for and why we should choose them.  It would give us a better idea of who to vote for.
Would everyone be honest and not edit them though?

Oh, also people can be a leader in no more than 2 departments.[/quote] 1 Department...too much power and ppl become tyrant

You can view page history and see who has edited it and what they've done so it would be noticed if someone did this, and it would be a breach of the AUP to chamge it to what you wanted it to say rather than what it should say.
