Hello from Shrewsbury, Shropshire
« on: May 12, 2008, 01:38:00 PM »
Hello, everyone

For the past 4 years I have been teaching IT to young and more mature learners.  My special interest is the use of virtual worlds in education, and more specifically in using virtual worlds as an engagement mechanism for young people to get interested in learning an creating a motivation for them to conitnue their education.  We are looking for something that would present an alternative to the mainstream or formal and traditional forms and education.  I really appreciate this opportunity to join the Schome project and learn more about making learning more versatile and engaging.

Hi Carousel and welcome to the Schommunity. Hoping there is time in the next few weeks for you to gain some benefits from getting involved (This phase of the Schome Park Programme is ending at the end of May - so we can reflect on what we have learnt so far and plan the next steps).

Welcome Carousel. As PeterT says, this phase of the Schome project is ending soon, so it's worth getting in world on Schome Park as soon as possible  :)

Welcome, Carousel.

It is great to see your post here in the forum. Your ideas about using virtual worlds as an engagement mechanism and making learning more versatile seem to be very much in line with the original aims of this research programme.

Members of the Schome community have made some lovely things over the three phases of the project, many of which are freely available from the "Scho-op", our in-world "shop". Other examples of Schomers' work, their experiences and evidence of development of Schome ideas are dotted around on the two in-world islands, as well as on the wiki. Their relevance extends well beyond the end of May, and may give you some ideas of specific things to try with your learners in the future.

You are clearly have some experience in the use of virtual worlds for learning and teaching. What sorts of things have you done already?

Has your Schome Park avatar been set up yet? I'd be happy to show you around Schome Park point you to where you can find more information on recent project activities if you like.

Amba  :)
