I noticed that there's a feed for this forum, so I decided to sign up for it, so I wouldn't have to check the site all the time; the only problem, which means I've now given up on that idea, is that it doesn't include who posted the posts...

Is there any way of fixing this?

I'm setting up this thread to teach Latin to those of you who want to learn it (I suggested doing this ages ago, then forgot :P)

Anyway, among other reasons, I'm setting this up on the forum because, if someone is away or something, they can catch up easily.

Now, onto some simple things which are vaguely useful :P

quis es tu? = Who are you?
quid appellaris? = What are you called?
Decimus sum. = I am Decimus.
Decimus appellor. = I am called Decimus.
(either of the answers can be used with either question)

salve = hello (one person)
salvete = hello (multiple people)
vale = goodbye (one person)
valete = goodbye (multiple people)

(de <...>) loqui volo. = I want to talk (about <...>).

euge! = Hurray!
eheu! = Oh no!

quid agis? = What are you doing?
(tibi) languinam latinam doceo. = I'm teaching Latin (to you).

And so on... :P (of course, if any of you want to add any Latin you know to this thread, feel free)

(and yay for FF's spellchecker having a Latin dictionary! :P)

One thing I've noticed today, which can be quite problematic sometimes, is that when Katharine left she disabled her name-to-key database for SP. Unfortunately, this means that, if we want to make something that only a certain person can use, you either have to wait for them to be in-world or use their name, which can easily be got around.

So, to get around this problem, I've made a quick-and-dirty version which simply scans the area around it (it's in the SPTC, atm) and logs the key and name of everyone who gets into range; simply say their (full) name to the thing on channel 15 and it'll reply with the correct key.

You can also say 'num' on channel 15 and it'll tell you how many keys it's logged.

schome in virtual worlds / Items disappearing

Several days ago, for some absolutely unknown reason, a large portion of my inventory disappeared. Then, the other day, I got part (though not all) of it back. What I want to know is, why? :P

One thing that's very odd about it is that the stuff disappeared in neat divisions - each folder in my inventory ended up either empty (or nearly empty) or completely intact! Another is that, while the original stuff that went missing appeared relatively indiscriminate of whether I made something or not, but the folders that have been restored were all mostly full of stuff made by me - other than scripts, a grand total of one texture has been removed from my inventory and not returned, out of the stuff I made...

This thread is, put simply, for anyone who needs a way of doing something, but they don't know how to do it (like check whether a character is in certain bounds - there isn't something for LSL) to state what they need and we'll see what we can do. :D

In case you're wondering, I'm making this thread because I need ord() for something (which I'm currently implementing), so I decided to see if anyone else has such needs :P

Education / Low-prim building competition

We (me, Baso and Siobhan, but mainly Baso :P) have just decided to have a low-prim building competition. The rules should be:

  • You may use up to, but not over, 100 prims
  • You need a name, a plan and a pre-build pitch explaining the design
  • Groups are allowed, but each person can only join one group and each individual or group can only submit one design between them
  • Building may commence any time on or after the 1st of August and must finish by the end of August
  • The build must be a function room of some form, though beyond that everything is open to interpretation
  • Do not interfere with other people's builds!

Help with virtual worlds / Too many prims

At the recent builders' meeting, we brought up the fact that there were *far* too many prims and, as a result, we decided that nothing significant should be built.

So, how do you propose to tackle the problem?

(edit: removed the megaprim suggestion, because they apparently have a tendancy to disappear without a trace)

Schome Park proposals / Game making

After having a discussion with Siobhan today, we decided that it would be interesting to have a session or something about making games.

To make these, we need:
* 2D/3D graphics artists (unless we're making something text-based or rogue-like, obviously)
* Storyline/narrative writers
* Programmers

Further, we could probably do with making a computer simulator (or even just an interpretter for some PL or other) so that we have it more like real games programming, which obviously doesn't use LSL...

What do you all think?

Help with virtual worlds / Scripting a chessboard

I have finally got around to making the scripting for my chessboard.
However, I have a slight problem as I can't find a couple of things; the things I want are:
* How to create a copy of an object stored in another object's inventory
* How to make the objects so that there's some way of identifying them (eg, a tag on the object)
* How to destroy the objects once I've finished with them

Anyone know how to do these? ???
