Iram Siraj-Blatchford (2004) in her pedagogic analysis of six popular models of early childhood education: High/Scope, Developmentally Practice (DAP), Reggio Emilia, Movimento da Escola Moderna (MEM), Te Whariki and Quality in Diversity found three areas of pedagogy common to all these models of exemplary practice:
* The use of pedagogical instructional techniques;
* The encouragement of affective involvement;
* The encouragement of cognitive engagement or co-construction.
She also points out that whatever strategies teachers employ the aim must be to achieve a high degree of intrinsic motivation and involvement in the activity in the short term and improved learning dispositions such as perseverance in the long term (p.141).

The proportion of pupils expelled has also risen for the first time in three years by 0.1%. Persistent disruptive behaviour was the biggest cause, followed by physically assaulting a pupil. Mike Fortune-Wood, of Home Education UK, a website that provides advice on home schooling, said there was a "quiet revolution" going on. In the next academic year parents teaching at home will have the further support of the country's first internet secondary school. The £165-a-month online will use the internet and conference-call technology to offer GCSEs in seven core subjects. Teachers will give morning classes online to small groups and set them work for the afternoon under parental supervision. To date, more than 40 children have been signed up to the "Inter High School", which has three teachers. 7. e-Gov Monitor Schools to become public ICT centres http://www.egovmonitor.com/node/1350 The Government has unveiled vague plans for schools to provide communities with access to ICT facilities under a new multi-million pound scheme. Public ICT access forms part of a "core offer" of after-hours extended services that all secondary schools would introduce by 2010, said the Department for Education and Skills. The DfES prospectus published to set out the Government's vision had no further information to flesh out the proposals and did not refer to how the new community ICT facilities would sit alongside the Government's existing and under-used network of UK Online Centres.
