SchomeBase Litererature Discussion Group Meeting 3 Book Choices
1. I Ching
1. Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke
Our proposal to launch a real-life satellite to measure and record Earthshine was named as one of the finalists in the UKSC.
Members of the team visited the Open University's Planetary Sciences department and Surrey Satellite (where they are pictured in the clean room) to find out more about what is involved in sending a project into space.
Their final proposal must be submitted by the end of August.
The poster about the project that Mars put together for the Farnborough Airshow is on display in the Schome blog.
Time Explorers links history and archaeology, making connections between the two. Before Schome Park closed for the summer, the group constructed the layers of a Roman road, carried out a virtual visit to the Cave of Lascaux, built a series of aqueducts and re-enacted the destruction of Pompeii by Vesuvius. Group member are currently putting together an account of their activities as an entry for the Y Factor competition at this year's Handheld Learning conference in London. As the Schome community has grown and developed over the past year I have enjoyed having the opportunity to work with new folk. I feel it is time to acknowledge the countless hours put in by our dedicated staff team, often invisibly. Not sure how to do this, but I have made a start by writing a mini, reflective case study about Amba's role so far. (Hmm - I wonder if I should have done it as a blog entry instead?)
You can download a copy of the MySchome magazine either as a pdf file (17Mb) or as a zip file (11Mb). This edition includes items on Archaeology, Schome in Space, Poetry, Sailing in SP, Trixxie's tips, Character design and much more ... (Mars is to be congratulated on pulling together a fantastic first edition - nice one Mars)
