The beasts of Clawstone castle

By Eva Ibboston

This is a book about two children who have to go and live with their grandparents.

Their grand parents live in a castle but unfortunately they don't get a lot of visitors.

Their rival Trembellow is much richer than The Percivals but the children have a cunning plan.

They get the help from a group of ghosts including a sawn in half circus girl,a pair of feet,a shot bride and an one eyed skeleton.

These ghosts help get a lot of money for open day but the beasts of clawstone castle(a herd of cows gets taken away from them.

That was the only reason the residents stayed.

Now the ghosts and the children must find the beasts.

By the Shores of Silver Lake

This is book five in the nine book series written by Laura Ingalls Wilder, a young girl who tells her story of life on the American Prairies. These books were later made into a TV series but the series is only very loosely based on the books.

In this book The Ingalls family move(yet again) from Plum Creek to De Smet. Pa goes on ahead of the family and the rest of the family travel by train to De Smet. Aunt Docia asks Pa to take a new job as store keeper, book keeper and time keeper in a new town by the shores of silver lake. It is too good an opportunity to miss so the family have to move again.

The family start off this new life living in the camp but later move into the surveyors house. This a great change for them as it has plenty of food in storage, a huge stove and is two storeys high. They still have to share rooms but it is a bigger and better house that they have ever had. Towards the end of the book they go to live on a homestead again and Pa returns to farming.

One of the scariest parts of the book is when one night an angry mob of men who have not yet been paid attack the building and Pa has to deal with it.

I am enjoying the series as it is amazing to learn about the day to day life of a young girl growing up in the 1880's.

Aquamarine

I absolutely loved this book. It is the book that was made into the movie of the same name. Both the book and the movie are aimed at pre-teen girls with a view to an interesting quest for love. A mermaid has to find love with a human in order for her Dad to accept her back in the sea after she ventures on to land. Two other girls help her but it is really hard for them as they have a crush on the very boy that the mermaid is trying to get to love her. In the book the mermaid is not nearly as nice as she is portrayed in the movie as she is grumpy and argumentative. The girls all become friends but not the best friends that appear in the movie. This is an easy book to read and is fun for a few hours.

Bunnicula strikes again

Bunnicula is a rabbit with a famous namesake.... Dracula. You can tell he is a vampire bunny rabbit. But does he suck blood? No, the juice of ...........vegetables, especially.......no not tomatoes, but artichokes.

This is the second book in the series of books written by James Howe's about the naughty rabbit. My sister read me the first one when I was younger.

The family dog, Harold is reading a book and goes downstairs and gets really angry at Chester, the cat as the main character in his book has died. As you can tell this book is crazy. Our dog never reads.

Chester hates Bunnicula and decides that the best way to destroy him is to remove all the juice from all the vegetables in the house. So Chester eats or drinks all of Bunniculas food during the day so that when Bunnicula, like any vampire wakes up at night, he will have no food and dies...

But this plan doesn't really work and Bunnicula runs away....

Five Children and It

This book is written by E. Nesbit and follows the trials of five children who discover a Psammymead while on holiday. This a magical creature that grants you any wish you speak even if by accident. The children are so excited and think that all their wishes will come true.

But when they wish for things to happen, no matter how carefully they word the wish, they always go wrong. When they wish for the pit to be full of gold it is but gold coins they can spend and they end up in trouble with the police and a whole lot of people they try and buy things off.

They have many all day adventures, the wishes wear off at sunset but none of them quite turn out right. It would still be a wonderful way to spend a summer but Mum asked me to think carefully about the wishes I would make. I would have to word them very carefully and make sure I got exactly what I want. Sometimes it is best to be happy with what you have.

I really enjoyed this book as it would be nice to have that many brothers and sisters and to have all day to just play.
