The notion of the one-room schoolhouse has no walls between 'classrooms', no periods/lessons, and learners work together irrespective of age.
Arthur Andersen (the consulting firm) have sponsored the development of a high tech one-room schoolhouse in the USA. Arthur Andersen himself is reported as saying that:
- "The traditional education system is obsolete, ... The existing education system is a monument to its own time and place (of a century ago), but a woeful anachronism in ours" (reported in Marcus 1997 paragraph 4).
