Option One: Emailing nominations to a staff member/non-voter who then will post them on the wiki.
This involves the technical support staff setting up an email address that will be directed either to a staff or a non-voting SParker, and we email our nominations for the government to this address, and the reciever posts them onto a page in the wiki.

Option Two: A scripted object in SL that will store votes and who has voted
This would involve someone scripting an object that would store who has voted, and will count votes for a specific person. Would be non-tamperable, but someone would need to script it.

Option Three: Open nominations on the forum then ballots in a poll
This involves having a topic in the private area where everyone can post nominations for the various areas of the government, and if they have at least 2 nominations (by diffferent people), they would be put forward for a ballot done by polls, so there would be a poll for the 'building/planning dept', and all the people who had been nominated for that would be on a poll, with the top 4 or so being in the dept after a set period of voting.

What we need to decide now, apart from how to do it, are all the technicalities: are we going to be able to nominate one person for each department, more than one person for each department, one vote in total, will it be the top however many going through?

heres an idea for having an even amount of people in government departments ...

the top 4 in the vote go into that department with the leader of that department being the head of <insert name>
when coming to a decison, they vote, in the event of a 2-2 tie, the leader has the casting vote

or obviously do odd number, leader is the one with highest votes but they have the role of spokesperson but nothing else

-bump-

I'd just like to draw everyone's attention back to this post. I feel at a bit of a standstill regarding governance at the moment, mainly due to having conflicting views that people (in general) don't seem to be able to compromise on. I need everyone's input to be able to move this forward again - I have said this several times, but I am not doing this on my own.

Is it me or do the polls on this forum keep you anonymous?
Anyway, is there any reason we need a democratic system and not another where there're no leaders or anything, just people working together on stuff? Hmm?

I would be willing to help you if you want Trix, if you are having problems.
But some sort of leadership/government in SL would be good, you know, to decide what can be built, and to sort disputes etc

Yes, as far as I can tell, you are anonymous on polls.

The democratic system isn't necessarily the best, but it seems to be the fairest, the one people are most familiar with and therefore most willing to give it a go. We're trying to steer away from having leaders per se, but I'm open to any suggestions on how to sort everything out ;).

I would be willing to help you if you want Trix, if you are having problems.

Thanks, Kali. I just feel like I'm doing everything sometimes, which isn't how it should be, for more reasons than one. I agree that we do need some system of deciding things, but as Deci said, it doesn't necessarily have to be a democratic approach.

So is someone going to build a giant automated foot!
lol. There's a project for ya ;).

you shouldnt have to do it alone
i think that maybe if we had some people (4 or 5 etc) on a kinda board to decide building, another to settle disputes etc
that might work

Hmmm, we could have 'government offices' where people come to see the boards or whatever
what do you think?  :)

A couple of my views:

A poll on the forums seems like the best way to go about it.
I think anyone should be allowed to go up for nomination, then the top 3 are elected as leaders (3 in each department, to allow voting within the department if opinions differ).

I also think we should make a 'manifestos' page on the wiki, where people can state their policies for the department they are running for and why we should choose them.  It would give us a better idea of who to vote for.

Oh, also people can be a leader in no more than 2 departments.

Discuss!
