Here are some 'insiders' tips...(who have been awarded a eduserv bid last year)

-a focus on 'distance learning' or 'e-learning' rather than 'young people' might suit Eduserv better
-make sure that it is clear that you're finding out stuff that will be relevant to HE (as that is Eduserv's main interest group). Their brief is HE, e-learning and technology.
-have a 'logistics paragraph' - Make it clear how long the project lasts, who are the staff, what are their qualifications and what the outcomes will be, and what questions will be answered (these should relate to the themes of the bid)
-Eduserv know Second Life really well and will know of Schome, so not much in the way of 'descriptive' stuff is needed
-what exactly are you finding out about learning? What model of learning are you testing or considering, and why - and how? Why Second Life rather than another platform (these answers can be worked into your draft in a single sentence or even less, but they add weight/credibility to your case)

The Eduserv 08 bid from the Schome Park Programme has gone in today - I've had an acknowledgment! We should hear at the end of the month whether we have got through to the next round or not.  :)

Just had the following info from Eduserv ...

we have received a total of 129 bids.

We intend to inform applicants who are through to the second round by Friday 11th April 2008 and those applicants will be expected to submit the second round applications by Friday 9th May 2008.

I would guestimate that they will end up funding around 6 bids in total ... so quite competitive!  :)

I've had a message from Eduserv to confirm that they are NOT going to fund our bid.  :(

So on to the next application ...  :)

Shame? :P

Oh well - you win some you lose some. Who are you aiming for next, the Leverhulme people?

PeterT, Euphloozie and I are meeting tomorrow about a bid to JISC. The next JISC deadline is about 10 days away - which is pretty tight because big grant applications have to wend their way past many people in a big institution like the Open University. Somebody has to check that we've worked out a sensible budget and not forgotten that we need to pay National Insurance or something like that. Somebody has to check that it looks like a sensible research proposal. Somebody has to check that the staff aren't already fully committed on something else. Somebody has to check that none of the thousands of other staff at the Open University has put in a bid for the same money. All that takes at least a week, as the paperwork gets passed from person to person. Still, our bit (the actual bid) is pretty much written.
