I haven't voted, mainly because I truly don't feel strongly either way-I can see the advantages of each option and none gains the advantage in my opinion.

I'm betting 'alpha' and 'beta' will eventually become 'a' and 'b' rendering all this pointless and so we may as well stick with I and II

Ah, but it should be, as I believe Kathy pointed out earlier, a and ß (argh-my computer won't let me use the alpha symbol!).

Faz - if we ever get a third sim, it'll still make a difference - it's either 'c' (for the Alpha, Bravo, etc. system) or 'y' (for the α, β, γ, etc. system)

Looks like the alpha beta crowd are in the majority.  :(

Now I know why I didn't plan to have a poll on this one!  ;)
(There are some things that really shouldn't be decided by a majority vote!  ::) :P )

I will contact LL and try to get this sorted out asap.

I'm afraid I'm to blame for putting a poll in. On the bright side, at least we'll stop arguing over the name now, won't we?

lol I almost took it out when it appeared - cos I genuinely believe some things are not best sorted democratically - well why else would I be a benign dictator - and we would have got to a decision just as rapidly I can assure you!  ;)
But having let it run then I also think I have to stick with the majority view.

Funnily enough the one decision that I really regret was having staff called SParkers and students called Schomers. Cos I now struggle with talking about SParkers (meaning all members of the Schome Park community) - which means I tend to talk about students and staff - which reinforces that distinction.  :(

Ah well - you live and learn.  :)

But then i am not in the majority although it was close

Well that's kind of selfish - you're reinforcing the confusion for new people we've just sorted out... :-\

The point is that this is a democracy-even if you don't personally support the government that was elected, you have to follow what they implement in terms of the law. You don't have to agree with the names, but that does not change them from being what they have been voted to be, and so you should use them, to make it clear to other people. It is indeed the majority oppressing the majority, and that is one of the problems of a democracy, but it is far preferable to the minority oppressing the majority.
