Find here a notice regarding weapons.

All weapons that move an avatar over 5+ metres should be removed from your person, inventory and trash can. Failure to comply will be treated as a breach of the Schome AUP (acceptable use policy) paragraphs 6, 7 and 8. Threatening avatars with weapons or using said weapons to blackmail other avatars is NOT acceptable.
Please be aware of the Acceptable Use Policy and the conqecuences of breaking it.
http://schome.open.ac.uk/wikiworks/index.php/AUP#Schome_Park_Acceptable_Use_Policy

Weapons that will not harm or move an avatar are acceptable although firing these weapons should stop once asked to by other avatars. If avatars agree to be fired at with weapons that may move them under 5 metres then they are doing so at their own risk.
Please use guns and other weapons responsibly.

It has to be less than 5 metres per shot.

Good point, Topper.
I don't think we have to be too specific with our legislation here. If anyone is bothering other people with a weapon - whatever effect it has on them, then they're breaching the AUP.

The main reason for this anouncement was the discovery of weapons known as 'harpoons', 'orbitors' and 'rammers'.

Faz..there is  very little guns /weapons i know or have made that could move an avatar of less than 5 meters...you may aswelll jus twalk into them, the main concept of weapons in SL was

a. To imitate life
b. to disrupt ppl if they annoyyed you.

I sugesst we have a combat zone somewere in sl....

Disrupting people with weapons if they annoy you sounds like utterly disproportionate use of force-this is certainly a reason against weapons being allowed.

@ baso

I understand your point but on an educational island weapons can't be allowed for many reasons (funding problems, people wanting to learn etc) and it just begs griefers

if we had a laserquest system then maybe...

As I have said, use of such weapons (yes, in agitated situations also) will be treated as breach of AUP paragraphs 6, 7 and 8.
To whom it may concern: they should be removed from your inventory immediately, refusal may be treated as a disturbance of the peace.

So your saying that if we kept to old rules that could be modified..we'd be happy.

Weapons are educational ..aiming....building..scripting etc....

Example

If we kept the law about kids being able to drink without heightening it to 18, then we would have a lot of deaths resulting od such.

I don't believe drinking is the same as (take your pick→) avatar disruption/emotional disturbance/anger and reclessness.

Baso, weapons can be designed to work without pushing avatars. For instance, I do not believe there is a problem with building a replica weapon, so long as it cannot affect avatars or indeed cause any griefing, this thread is started with:
"All weapons that move an avatar..."
Quite simply, you can learn ballistics extremely easily without needing to fire people across the island.
