How is the buddy system going?
« on: July 14, 2007, 07:45:13 PM »
I've checked the buddies page and we have eight buddy pairs signed up at present.

How's it going? Do the new SParkers feel they are finding their feet in the community? Has this form of induction worked for you? How could we improve it?

Do the Hawaiian Shirts feel they have been successful in supporting their buddy? Has your buddy been in world recently? Have you PMed them? How do they feel about the project?

I'm keen that we see the buddy system as more than an initial guided tour of the island.

I feel I haven't been in-world enough to help much, and then I tend to be in at erratic times, which mkaes organising to meet with a buddy hard. Despite this, I think the system has a lot of advantages.
'I am the gadfly'-or at least, I'd like to be

Question everything, including this.

Unfortunately I've been quite busy recently so I have not seen Eli that much! Also what if the "newbie" gets to the stage when they don't need a buddy, what happens then?

I'm asking this because Eli is very capable now and certainally does not need me to help!

It's good to see that your buddy is getting on so well - it looks as if your introduction was very successful. Maybe a couple of PMs or a chat to check how it's going and whether Eli would like any more help?

If he's happy to go it alone - you'll be free to buddy someone else  ;)

What do you think made this such a successful pairing?

Has anyone heard from Emodalek? Doesn't seem to have been around for a couple of weeks?

So someone needs to have a friendly chat with him next time he is in about building in the sandbox, and about clearing up after yourself.

I think it's best if everyone is encouraged to take responsibility for keeping the island in order, rather than leaving it to the people with mod powers.

Clearing up isn't something anyone knows about automatically - it's one of the things which buddies need to talk about.

I have set up a page, on the wiki, called Second Life: Prim Modification Rights. I tihnk it is a good idea if people have their buddy's mod rights, as we do get cases like Emodaleks, where he doesn't come on often but leaves prims everywhere.

Thanks for being proactive, Mars. However - I still feel that we should talk to people about the importance of clearing up after themselves. When you arrive on Orientation Island on the Main Grid, there are signs all over the place telling you to clean up when you have finished building. We don't have those signs on SPii, so we need to pass this one by word of mouth.

Everybody's learning Mars, I won't remind the "old hands" what Schome Park 1 used to look like for the first two months or so with discarded prims  lol

Thanks for all your help in putting up the help pages and showing people around

I believe that he is away on holiday ... (or that could be cover for alien abduction ...)
