Glad you were able to view it, Baso, and good luck with the PhD. Let us know when you finish, and we can celebrate virtually.

If anyone else sees this thread too late to have a chance of seeing the live event, you can watch the recording here

Introductions / PeterT – an end and a beginning

I don't know whether anyone's still checking the forum – probably not after all this time.
However, if you do happen by in early June 2019, you might be interested in the inaugural lecture that PeterT is giving on 25 June – 'If school is the problem, what is the solution?'
You can sign up here to attend either via livestream or face to face from 6-7pm that evening
Although inaugural lectures are usually given when someone becomes a professor at a university, Peter's been a professor for several years, and he's using his inaugural as an opportunity to say goodbye to The Open University before moving on.

Drawing on his research Peter will explore the implications of how people learn for how we teach, how our changing world necessitates changes to the curriculum, barriers to educational change and potential ways forward.
The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion about visions for schooling and how to achieve them.

Yay! Congratulations Topper. That's fabulous news that you will be joining us in October. See you then  :)

It struck me that, as several people currently have access to university libraries, you might be interested to read about yourselves in some of the academic papers abut Schome

Hi Kali,

Good to hear from you - although I'm sorry to learn that it is family experience that has taken you in the direction of radiotherapy. I hope they have made a good recovery.

It's great to hear that you have found a career that is a good fit - I tried several before finding a career path I was happy with.

I wonder if we could arrange a face-to-face Schome meet-up in the autumn? Maybe to do something in London together?

Hi Spiral,

Great to hear from you and to hear such positive news. I hope teaching works out for you.
As Peter said, we heard from Topper recently (in fact, we met him when he came for an interview at the OU) - he is putting in applications to do a PhD in planetary science. I think Kali is also well into a PhD, though we haven't hear from her for a couple of years. I see Kit on Twitter occasionally, but that's mostly day-to-day stuff. Are you still in touch with Baso?

Several of us are still based at the OU, working on a variety of projects. Elsa has an OU job that involves whizzing around the world - she is in Addis Ababa at the moment, and was in Kathmandu last month. Mark Cabaret is doing various projects around Maker Culture, and Phloozie is running Evidence Cafés. Rowan is now at Lancaster Uni, while Faji and Gaia are at Bristol Uni. Woop was leading on mobile applications at Tesco for a while - I think he's leading on something technical at Dominos Pizzas at the moment (although what I get most from his Facebook stream is a series of pictures of his pet snakes). I'm working on projects around MOOCs and learning analytics, which has also led to a lot of world travel this year - Malaysia and Uruguay most recently.

Let us know how the teaching goes - and I hope you fit in a good summer break beforehand.

Hi Kali - I'm glad to hear things are going so well for you.
We have a set of funded studentships going at the OU - but I think that even the scientific ones are quite far outside your field. Nothing in physics, I'm afraid.

Wow, Kali, yours sounds very impressive (PeterT being a professor is also impressive, but I knew about that already). Where will you be studying? I know that Faji and Gaia are at Bristol now, after a while at Leicester.

Hi Spiral, Good to hear from you. I'm impressed you're reading pharmaceutical chemistry. Hope it's going well.
I'm lecturing in educational technology at the OU, alongside Mark and Euphloozie.
Phloozie and I have got a book out with another member of the Schome team - 'Augmented Education'. It includes some mentions of Schome, though only a few.
I've also been doing some work on FutureLearn, which definitely has some elements of being an education system for the knowledge age. Massive open online courses may shift education in new directions but I'm not sure. The jury's still out

Hi Paul,
Things are a bit quiet around here at the minute, I'm afraid.
You might want to check out the wiki - set up by Peter Twining, the director of the Schome Project.
