Title: Reflecting on the newsletter - some changes being made
Post by: Marsbar9 Schomer on April 28, 2008, 06:15:44 PM
Hiya, for those of you who don't know, there's a schome park newsletter called MySchome. You should receive an e-mail linking to it very shortly. I just wanted to tell you about some changes and additions to it - and also to give you the opportunity to comment on it.

I can't think of anything else - so I'll let you know if anything else comes up. Thanks to everyone who contributed, and who helped with "the issue". Your work is greatly appreciated - and I'm sure everyone will enjoy reading it.

If you have anything for next time, please feel free to PM it to me, or see me in world ;)

Mars.

PS: I'll link to the newsletter from here once the e-mail has been circulated.

It looks really really good!  :)

Just out of interest, do you have any idea on the frequency of the magazine?  Is there going to be one every school term ....

i.e. one in December, March and May/June? or something?

It will probably be every few months - and I'm going to try to keep it going throughout the closure as well, by keeping in touch with people.

Why don't you have a SL re-birth as Mars.....I'm sure if you ask Peter, you could change your name officially

Argh it was smaller and in a different font - I assume the pdf didn't like the font so Peter changed it ;)

I have thought about it - but it might feel like I've lost my identity - sounds daft I know lol

So are there going to be regular articals with some features? Or are they all feature articals??

Well there are only a few regular articles, such as scrapbook and Trixxiee's tips. The rest will vary from edition to edition. I haven't heard anything from Schomers about what they thought to the magazine - so what did you think? What could be improved for next time? (Which btw is coming out end of next month I think)

I'm going to organise a meeting in world for those who were involved last time and those who are involved this time so we can pitch some ideas together and make this bigger and better :)

Of course... :P It was a very good article though - are you writing another for this edition?

I will do when I have some time. Think I may change from henges to the eruption of Vesuvius and consequent destruction of Pompeii and Herculeneum. Surprised??  :P

When is the deadline??

I am hoping it wil be after 23rd May as that is when I go on study leave so I will have more time.  :)

Oh it will be after 23rd of May - most likely around end of June. Then I'll need to look into how I'm going to get articles in after SP closes - unless the forum stays open.

Have you seen the thread in the HS subforum??

The possibility of the forum and wiki staying open was talked about.

Good-oh. If it is after the 23rd then I can do it in the evenings as during the day I can do all the work I need and I can do 'my stuff' in the evenings!  lol ;)

Sure, its no problem. Though this one is likely to be longer than the last as I am bound to go into all the geological eruption-y stuffs!  :P
And thats before I even touch on the archaeology!  ;) lol

There is a poll still running in the thread (http://schome.open.ac.uk/forum/index.php?topic=2389.0): The results so far; 14 yes, 1 no.
I haven't heard any decisions from Peter, yet. Though, I remember there were talks about allowing postings in the private area only - so that it would require less moderation.
For the wiki, Topper and Trixxie are doing great at moderating and Mars's contributions for updating are also brill! I believe the wiki could stay open without any worries..

OK. Most people do seem to want the forum to stay open, this way we can all stay in contact.
It can also be used for things like this!  :P

Hmm... well an archaeology magazine- unsre many people would want to read my enthusiastic ramblings! Maybe I'll just keep the word limit down!  ;)
