Title: Access to Schome Park 2
Post by: PeterT on December 02, 2007, 02:29:18 PM
In theory there are very few folk who should currently be able to access the new sim (Schome Park II) - clearly this is not working though cos there are objects on it created by a range of folk. Please can you respond to this message if you can (at the moment) access the new part of the island.

If you are able to access the new part of the island then please do not disturb Developer, Woop or Faji if they are working there ...

Thanks.

Actually, it seems that the only *avatars* who can go there are Faji, Woop, etc., but for whatever reason you can move objects in there...

Also, you seem to be able to get onto the new sim above 100m...

I'm able to drive objects into the new area of land but when I get near, the object and myself separate so that I'm left in between the two islands unable to move. It is also possible for me to create a block and slide it in in edit mode although I did it my accident. I cannot actually access the island and I didn't mean to annoy anyone. I'm in the process of uploading a video to youtube showing how I did it.

Laughing out loud - great video - love your sense of humour - and impressed at your video production skills!

Nice one!  8)

I've added it to the Schome Park Videos (http://schome.open.ac.uk/wikiworks/index.php/Second_Life_demos#Schome_Park_videos) on the Second Life domos page (http://schome.open.ac.uk/wikiworks/index.php/Second_Life_demos).

(I've always loved those particle-emitting pink pigs. My computer desktop pic used to be a pic of me and Prettykindoforc wearing them one day.)

Brilliant, dudefish! lol
I thought your exploit needed putting on the bliki - and that was before I saw the YouTube video.

Well it appears I can get on the new land.  My feet got cold and wet but it was tremendously exciting.

May I stay if I promise to be quiet, not do anything (much easier than promising to do something lol ;) lol) except take photos and occasionally post on the bliki?

I cried and cried : :'(

but then...a beacon of hope...

Experimenting ...

We are kind of hoping to be able to surprise you with whatever it is that is being planned - so a bit miffed that you can fly over it cos that is going to slow down our development activity or mean that we cannot surprise you with the unveiling of the <surprise design>.  :P

:o Please note that it appears that folk who log out or crash when over the new sim are then unable to log back in.  :o

The best bet is to stay well clear of the new island until we open it in January - otherwise you may find yourself locked out of Schome Park totally (as has happened to topper and Faz).

Whilst we will try to resolve the problem if you do get locked out we cannot promise how quickly we can do this (you have been warned!)  >:D

PeterT  :)

Title: Re: Access to Schome Park 2

If I may step in. There is no way to the best of my knowledge of fixing this problem without granting everyone access to schome park 2, the problem most likely originates from the fact that if you are in the air and log out you tend to be moved down a bit..

So like peter said, stay out of Schome Park 2 untill january  ::)

Hey - if I'd thought of that I'd have implemented it from day one - flattered that you think I have the technical competence to set it up so that folk get TPed to other islands if they spy on Schome Park II.   lol

Have you tried sitting on a prim and moving the prim?

Otherwise, I have no useful ideas.

Post by: Faji on December 13, 2007, 11:30:00 PM
I hadn't thought of that! I tried it, but I didn't have the permissions to build a prim on the island  :D

In the end (after like six crashes) I managed to get out by moving VERY VERY slowly onto the old island. I thought I was going to be stuck in purgatory for a while there!

No - the reason we did before was because NAGTY was no longer running the project, and Schome was going to be in full control.

No - the reason we did before was because NAGTY was no longer running the project, and Schome was going to be in full control.

That is my view too - indeed the fact that you are still able to use the forum and wiki could be taken as an indication that the project is ongoing!  ;)

So not intending to ask you to do new consent forms.

:) Have you thought about using other ways to create virtual learning environments?

Not sure what you mean here Faz ...

A virtual learning environment is not the same thing as a virtual world (as I'm sure you realise) - in some sense I guess we have created what you might call a virtual learning environment through the combination of the wiki, forum and Second Life.

We have played with a number of other VLEs (eg Moodle) and social networking tools (eg facebook, myspace, bebo, etc) are keeping an eye on other virtual worlds as they develop ...

Is that what you meant?

We could explore the potential of adding MSG as a tool - the link Fox provided is for the OpenLearn specific version of MSG - there is a vanilla version (http://msg.open.ac.uk/msg) which we could use and perhaps integrate with the wiki and forum.

I will pursue this - but do nag me about it ...

You can edit your MSG Account Information at any time. We reserve the right to send you certain communications relating to the MSG service, such as service announcements, administrative messages that are considered part of your MSG account, without offering you the opportunity to opt-out of receiving them.

Is that even legal? I thought you had to provide an opt-out for everything now. Or is that just in the US? >.>

I guess the opt out is not to sign up for the MSG service - if you do sign up then they reserve the right to send you info about the MSG service and changes to it. But who knows?

Mine does that too.

The strange thing about my phone is that, when I went to Belgium, the only texts my phone actually got were ones from Orange, even though my parents texted me several times...
... Then, a couple of days after we got back, my phone got the others :P

As part of the new regime in Phase 3 of the project we need to become much better maintaining the focus of each topic ...

So here I am testing that out ... Could I suggest we refocus this topic on Access to Schome Park 2 (oh boy - having just been responding re the naming of the islands I am wondering what on earth Schome Park 2 is - and now I'm thinking that perhaps this topic ought to get archived rather than refocussed - this moderation thing is complex!)
