: Meeting follow up.....
: Topper Schomer September 10, 2007, 08:36:56 PM
Fell free to follow up any disscusions from the meeting.

Unfortunatly I wont be able to put the chatlog on the wiki but a set of minutes will be up in about a weeks time.

We disscused the idea of a pionts sytem for breaches of the AUP please vtoe in the poll above if you have a opinin on the issue as a clear majoraty was not reached in the meeting. Themes that people wanted to see will be in the full minutes but people wanted to see sporting events  a film festaval culture festaval and snail/worm racing.

Thanks to all those who attended.

Topper (and probanbly Aston)

Ok here follows the rough minutes of the meeting

In attendece: Topper, Siovahn, Edi, Aston, Spiral, Decimus, Pilgrim, Pigment, Explo, anyone else I forgot, Marsbar9 (towards the end).

Apologys: Baso

Agenda:

1) AUP
1A) What constiutes a breach
1B) Punishment
1C) Point System (added after favoured by some people in attendence)
2) Themes
3) AOB

1A) This was disscused briefly wothe the genral aggrement being the a ocasonal accidental use of bad languge being tolorated but anything more serious than a OCASIONAL ACCIDENTAL use of bad language being punished swiftly and efficently.

1B)This was disscusd at great length. It was suggested that a piont system should be trialed, this was disscused later. Dedated at length was how harsh the system should be ranging from
1 point= warning, 2 points= 24hr ban 5 points=perm ban
to
3 warnings = official caution, 3 cautions = ban
. The general referremdom was we needed the system to follow the middle way beetween the 2 examples, the first being a touch to harsh as it punished mistakes to harshly and the second being to leniant. we did not agree on a clear system.

1C) this was disscused hevaly in the previous setion. No agreement was reached.

2) This was disscued briefly and it was agreed that it woud be a good idea to have week long 'festavals/events' as it wuld bring folk in regually. among were the suggstions were: the sports week, a festaval of film and a culture week.

3) None was raised.

I will send a copy of the chatlog to all atendees and if staff and every attendee permit it a copy to anyone that wants one.

Thanks Again

Hi Topper, thanks for putting up the minutes of the meeting. It feels like a grim task to write them up and type them in but they are really valuable for other people to be able to have a look at and understand what went on in the meeting. Thanks! Really appreciated.

Hey Mars, it took me years to remember what AOB meant, and at that point I wondered if it just meant I'd been to too many meetings  lol

I don't think there's anything wrong at all with asking people what an abbreviation means... way too many of them out there....

 :)

Sorry... I didn't even know about this meeting... there are so amny posts on these forums... how do you keep up with them...

Fox.... do you ACTAULLY sleep...??  :D

With the AUP thing.. I think there should be a score system perhaps where the severity of the issue is assessed and graded. Thsi should then refer to a list where sanctions are decided on the severity of what has occured.. such as a 2 day ban/ 1 week ban etc

Just my ideas....

What is this sleep thing of which you speak  ??? lol

If you think I'm bad - look at PeterT's stats. He's on at midnight, he's on at 3am, he's posting enthusiastically at 5am and even so he hasn't posted as much as Trix  ;)

Something for us to remember at future meetings - ask people at the start of the meeting (and when new folk join) if they are happy for the meeting to be recorded and the chatlog shared.

I always intend to do this and nearly always forget - but if you do remember it is much easier than trying to get permission afterwards!

This point idea seems really good actually..but its putting it into operation....there isnt much AUP breaking anyway...os honestly id givethem on warning..then a ban...Goodnight.

Hmm... an I thought my friends didn't sleep that much!!! :P

Yeh.. I think it would depend on the severity really though... if it was quite major we would have to be stricter than if it was just perhaps someone who just got a little stressed and went a bit over the top.

where is the line in the sand between the two though, Vibia, this is the problem, we'd need strict measurements to keep simple rules.
: Re: Meeting follow up.....
: Baso Schomer September 26, 2007, 07:12:58 PM
yes..half the time it is much beter to keep things simple.
: Re: Meeting follow up.....
: PeterT September 26, 2007, 07:14:22 PM
We do have a sort of policy or at least set of steps we aim to work though - which you can find here (http://schome.open.ac.uk/forum/index.php?topic=943.msg18406#msg18406) ...

Happy to think about alternatives - but wanted to remind folk that we are not without procedures already (and wanting to avoid creating a huge beurocracy (why can't I remember how to spell that word?) ...
: Re: Meeting follow up.....

Beaurocracy?
: Re: Meeting follow up.....
: Decimus Schomer September 27, 2007, 06:18:43 PM
Beaurocracy?
A tpyo of 'bureaucracy' :P
And, for some reason, that makes me think of 'beardocracy', which would be where the people with the longest beards are in charge :P
: Re: Meeting follow up.....

I presume that 'tpyo' is a typo of 'typo'.  :P

Implementing beardocracy wouldn't change anything around here...PeterT would still be in charge!

unless topper grws a beard (mwahahahahahahaha)

But on a more serious note can we get back to diss cusing a point system for breaches of the AUP.
